Homemade Ikan Bilis Powder Recipe

Homemade Ikan Bilis Powder is the perfect condiment to enhance baby's food. It is a good source of Calcium, Iron, Protein and more... Babies need these nutrients for growing, pregnant and lactating mummies need to increase their calcium intake while the elderly need to combat osteoporosis. Why only use this natural goodness for your baby? From now, let's start using this essential powder for the Young and Old.
Buy whole Ikan Bilis to remove only the head and entrails, with its bones intact. This will retain more calcium while reducing the cholesterol. The entrails will make the Ikan Bilis powder taste bitter taste and smell unpleasant.
Soak approximately 500g of Ikan Bilis in water for at least 15 minutes. Rinse it a few times to remove the salt content. If you intend to give your little one, you can soak for a few more minutes.
Rinse and drain Ikan Bilis in Buffalo Smart Air Fryer accessories, Baking Cage. Leave it for 10 minutes. Tips* Place a tray below to collect the dripping water.
Ikan Bilis is now partial dry. Load Baking Cage into Buffalo Smart Air Fryer.
*Optional: Add a few drops of oil before closing the Baking Cage.
Select "Fry" and "Roll". 230 degree, 25 minutes. After 5 minutes, adjust to 200 degree.
Tips: Do not overload the Baking Cage, else will result in uneven air frying.
Click to view 360 degree rotation of Baking Cage during air frying process.

Hear how crispy it is after 20 minutes of Air Frying?

Use a spoon as a lever to open to the Baking Cage, use your thumb and index fingers to gently hold onto the lock. Caution as the Baking Cage is very hot!
Check if the Ikan Bilis is totally dried and crispy. If not yet, you may want to air fry for another 10 to 20 minutes at 160 to 180 degree. It is a must to cook the Ikan Bilis until totally dry else you will not be able to blend it into powder form.

Load Crispy Ikan BIlis into a food processor to blend until "Baby Powder Smooth" texture. Store in air tight container and keep in refrigerator. Happy Using!

Why Baby Powder Smooth?
Babies are learning how to swallow, hence if there is any bone particles in the Ikan Bilis Powder, babies may get chock.

My Ikan Bilis powder is exceptionally fragrant, slighty sweet, very slight salty. Perfect for Porridge, Soup, Stir Fry, Marinate of minced meat, Noodles Dough, for ALL RECIPES. 1/4 to 1/2 tsp for extra fragrance. *Best within 6 months, up to 1 year.
No Salt, No Seasoning!!!
Don't expect little one to eat bland and tasteless food which we as adults don't even want to eat. For they are smart, they only eat what appeals to their senses. All it takes is a little more effort to make their tiny meals more tasteful and healthy.

  1. Hi, wonder why add salt and it will make it sweeter? Won't it make it more salty? Thank you.

    1. Add salt is to totally drained out the salt. If don't add then also fine but will need to wait for a much longer time.
